Welcome to Jones County!

Site of Emigrant Trail, The Frontier Military Road and Fort Phantom Hill, founded in 1851 to guard the Military Road.

Jones County was created in 1858 from Bexar and Bosque County and named for Anson Jones, (1798-1858). Anson Jones was a veteran of San Jacinto, minister to the U.S.,Secretary of State and the last President of the Texas Republic.

Jones County is located in West Central Texas. It is the Lower West Texas Plains with diversified income from crops, livestock, oil and trade.

Population in 2002 was 20,435.
